Vintage French Painted Enamelware White Body Pitcher. Authentic vintage French body pitcher is white with a red border around the upper edge and blue borders below. It is further decorated with a motif of stylized red flowers inside a blue trelliswork border. The interior and the bottom are also white.

This pitcher is in very good condition with the exception of several chips in the enamel and some rust spots, commensurate with age and use. Enamelware pitchers such as this one were common before running water was readily available and were often included in the paintings of many famous French artists when painting scenes of women at their bath. We have found an example of a rare photograph by Degas as well as a painting by Picasso featuring such pitchers.
