Signed Domingo Block Modern Enamel Copper Art Plaque Midcentury Mexican Painting

HERES A HIGHLY UNUSUAL SIGNED ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1960S-1980S MODERN ENAMEL-ON-COPPER PLAQUE BY MEXICAN ARTIST DOMINGO BLOCK DISPLAYING A 3-DIMENSIONAL PSYCHEDELIC CELESTIAL ABSTRACTION COMPRISED OF TWO (2) SEPARATE ENAMELED COMPONENTS INCLUDING A LARGE PLAQUE RAISED ABOVE A CENTRAL OVAL DISK SO THAT WHEN VISUALLY COMBINED THEY COMPLETE WHAT MIGHT BE CONSTRUED AS A COMET AND ITS MULTI-COLORED ION AND DUST TAILS! Domingo Block started with a sheet of copper from which he cut out an oval disk measuring approximately four inches (4) in height by two and three eighths inches (2 3/8) in width. The oval disk was then enameled in light blue with a green and red center (the actual red center being a small melted millefiori glass bead), and then green and red center area is surrounded by an explosion of flame-like tails rendered in dark and light green, white, yellow, and purple enamel. Block then took the remaining sheet of copper and covered it in translucent brown enameling and an intense orange enamel around the cut-out oval area. In addition, Block created another explosion of large multi-colored flame-like tails rendered in red, orange, blue, green, purple, and white that appear to be reaching upwards toward the cut-out oval area.

He then mounted the oval enameled disk flush with the white-painted wooden background frame and the larger sheet of enameled copper is mounted on risers so that it sits above the oval enameled disk by approximately five eighths of an inch (5/8). The two pieces then visually combine to create a three-dimensional psychedelic celestial abstraction.

But this is just one interpretation. Signed Block in the bottom right corner of the larger sheet of enameled copper.

The signature is made up of small silver wires, similar to silver wires used in cloisonné enameling. Condition: Generally speaking, the enamel-on-copper plaque and the white-painted wooden background frame are in very good and clean condition. BUT, and please read, there are two clusters of craze lines located toward the bottom right and left edges of the larger enameled sheet of copper.

Overall, this is still a important example of Domingo Blocks enamel art!
