DENYSE VERDY-TREMBLAY BIO the following is a complete reprinting of a newspaper article originally published December 11, 1980. The original text was in French and has been roughly translated into English, with both texts shown below.

For Denyse Verdy, the prevailing sculptural element of her choice is enameling. It's been seven years since Denyse Verdy began working with enamel on copper. "I consider that it takes almost ten years to really learn a discipline, to find my way, " remarked the artist early in the interview which took place in the art gallery of the travel agency Access World. This is located at 8235 Saint-Denis, where the public can see the latest works of Verdy's enamel art until 19 December. The prevailing sculptural element I decided is enamelling. I always did drawing and watercolor and then I got to enamelling, which brought to me the missing texture in painting. I feel I'm at the end of a period. What I will do now is mostly relief, increasingly resembling sculpture, Denyse comments. Denyse Verdy adds that she has never been directed to make small objects, jewelry, what interests her are the dimensions of art or its decoration.

Why not a wall, a table? This is one reason why it has never aspired to participate in the Crafts Fairs that requires, according to the artist, the pressure for an almost industrial production. She prefers the freedom, pure creation "which also has drawbacks, which is not without causing plenty of anguish but brings to me a great pleasure almost physical, " she notes. Denyse Verdy dreams of opening a shop together with a large gallery. She would gather together some good enamelers.

Last summer in New York, she lived a very rewarding experience and tells. There were free workshops and exchanges between enamelers who come from everywhere. They were amazed at the type of my enameling production and I was asked right away to exhibit in New York. I will go at the beginning of the year to show at the Spring Street Gallery Enamel.

For now, Denyse has her own studio, but considers exchanges with other very important enamelers. But now that I'm doing more and more relief, it gives me thicker and larger sheets when I cut myself. This requires considerable physical strength, she says, laughing. You would not think it to see this young woman all slim and very elegant.
