A Chicago native, William Jacobs studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at Hull House. From the 1930's through the 1950's his works were exhibited at the A.
He was also a WPA muralist who painted for the Chicago Public Schools. An Expressionist by temperment and a Modernist by conviction, Jacobs was a person of his generation, choosing to depict the industrial symbols of Chicago and its roiling tenements in his art. He lived in the Jewish "Maxwell Street" district on South Halstead and used the everyday life of his neighborhood as source material for his work. We do offer local pick-up.
