With the continuing displacement of peoples from their traditional environs into cities some groups like the Makonde tried to continue their traditions many of which had always been isolated to that they became entertainment for their new neighbors. OJAJAMONDE was the half brother of E. Tingatinga who originated Tingatinga genre of painting. Ojajamonde worked along side his brother until Tingatinga's unfortunate death in 1972. When Ojajamonde died in 2015 he was the last of the painters to have known Tingatinga himself. Ojajamonde's paintings like the man himself are happy, fanciful, colorful, and lyrical. The subject matter are animals, birds, and people that communicate a sense of harmony among subjects and background. Being around his paintings imparts a feeling of well being.
