This beautiful, large sterling brooch dates from the Art Nouveau period in the first decade of the 1900s. It depicts white lilies and their leaves. Used at weddings and funerals, white lilies symbolize rebirth, purity, and renewal of the soul. The colors of the brooch are white, yellow (centers), and green over a silver background. Also, the lily bouquet is framed in silver.
The enamel over the guilloche is beautiful and provides realism to the petals and leaves. The back of the brooch has a Victorian tube hinge and a simple C catch, and is also stamped STERLING. Condition: Very good, two short dark lines on one petal which I only noticed when looking at the highly magnified photos.
I thought it was silver over the "veins" just as the petals are outlined, until I looked at them with a 10X loupe. They must be underneath the finish as the surface is smooth to the touch. Approximate measurements: 2 1/2" wide, 1 1/2" long.If you need the item by a certain date, please be sure to let me know. Please note: I have NO control over the U.
