Caroline of Brunswick, high quality enamel miniature by Swiss artist

The sitter of this superior quality enamel miniature strongly resembles Caroline of Brunswick (see our comparison images), consort of King Georg IV of Great Britain (then still Prince-Regent). Nevertheless, with almost 100% possibility it is not a work of an English artist (the round form is untypical for that country) but of a Swiss representative of the School of Geneva? Or of a French Parisian?

The lady's dress and hairstyle speak for the mid-1810s; this fact allows to suppose that Caroline if it is really her! Was portrayed at that time being away! As one learns from the biography of Caroline of Brunswick the latter left London in August of 1814 sic! And after a short stay in Switzerland sic! She settled at Lake Como (Italo-Swiss border) where she spent the next four years (with breaks for travels in the Mediterranean).

In 1814 she was already 46-years old but one of our comparison images shows her looking relatively young at that age. Provenance: private collection, Bordeaux/France We are very grateful to Mr.
