We'll be sending out sale notices and special deals to our'Favorites' customers. Artist has signed the miniature painting, and it is stunningly fine - well worthy of claiming the work. The signature is there in the lower right, at her diaphanous sleeve, where it is also dated "1900".

Late for a gouache painting on thin wafer like this, it is very likely a painting done during this young woman's famed Grand Tour. She looks to be either a bride, or a young beauty entering womanhood. I imagine her traveling abroad with her grandmother, wealthy or titled socialite of England or America. In such a small painting, her face is less than 3/4 from chin to top of head, and yet look at her beauty, those violet blue eyes and chestnut hair. If only we knew her story. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The painting was done 121 years ago. The frame is a valuable little gem of its own, with a kiln-fired enamel mat set off by the bronze. Easel back or hanging loop, it even still has the old original silk velvet covered backing - all in good form. Cover glass is, of course, also present. No damage other than a light loss of the silk nap on the green silk velvet covered backing. I did not polish the old brass frame, but it is simple to do if you wish to have it a high brilliant gold look. Full measurements are noted on the photos. We're easy to deal with.
