Antique French Limoges Enamel Portrait Plaque Gilt Bronze Empire Frame

Superb antique 19th century French Limoges kiln-fired enamel on copper plaque, housed in an opulent gilt bronze ormolu frame. A charming enameled work inspired after La Faneuse (The Tedder) by Julien Dupré, portrait depicting a woman in the field pitching hay.

Beautifully rendered with exquisite detailing, here depicted in colorful tones atop a dark red/brown background embellished with gold gilt accents. The enamel is done on a convex copper plaque, which is then kiln fired. Signed by the enamelist with initials of PR or RP followed by d'après Julien Dupré.

The gilt bronze frame is decorated with finely casted ornamental appliques on a velvet covered background, having intricated patterned friezes along the sides. Topped by an ornate finial comprising of scrolling foliate, rocailles and florals with a scalloped shell in the center. A beautiful piece and in good antique condition with general wear to the frame commensurate with age. Frame measures 10 1/4" height x 10" width x 1 1/4 deep.
