Antique Bohemian Hand Painted Enamel Hercules & Omphale Mythology Art Glass Vase

The visual representation of this. Hand painted vase depicts the Greek Mythology story of. This art glass vase is mould blown of colourless glass with a wide Optic Panel pattern. The hand painted rim accented in gold, has an. Very large in size and meant to be displayed as a primary centerpiece. This vase is completely hand painted showing how no detail was spared with the use of vibrant polychrome enameling. The vase is not signed by the artist. With the shape of the art glass vase, the origin is attributed to be from a Bohemian glasshouse. Possible contenders are Lobmeyr, Meyer's Neffe, Moser, Josephinenhutte or Harrach.

The art work painted on this art glass vase reveals a romantic scene of two lovers with other symbolic subjects. The pictorial relation to the Greek Mythological story of Hercules and Omphale, is the man holding a golden staff, and the long thread connecting from the staff to a spindle of wool that his beloved is cradling between her finger tips.

The original masterpiece paintings depict, Omphale, the queen of Lydia punishing Hercules to spin wool which was demeaning to his fierce masculinity, as he was doomed to do woman's work for murdering Iphitos. Omphale eventually alleviates and falls in love with Hercules.

Cupid observes the love affair, as he holds his bow and arrow behind his winged back, proving how his bow and arrow have the power to make anyone fall in love. The couple are embraced in nature with a purple swag hanging just above them. The lute, triangle, tambourine and a cornette symbolize leisure time of dancing and romance for these two lovers. On the back of the vase, there's a golden Cobweb.
