Rare antique Arts & Crafts era Murrle Bennett & Co. 950 silver & enamel landscape scene brooch. True Arts & Crafts movement design - sterling silver hammered with dot pattern at the bottom with lovely scroll details framing an enamel center piece in a landscape scene - it looks like there may be a windmill near the upper left with Cypress trees near the upper right however unsure. It is believed this was made in the year 1908 based on the mark on the back of the enameled piece - marked VIII (see photo for detail).
Beautiful original patina on the sterling areas. Marked on the back: MB Co.
, 950 (for silver content) and VIII possible date mark? See photos for all hallmarks. 11/16" across (just under 1 3/4") x approx.7/8 tall (see photos for measurements). 8.7 grams total weight. Condition notes: READ - NOTE.
The pin on the pin back does hook under the c-clasp piece but hooks loosely. The painted enamel piece does have some marks (some of those mark looks as though they may be original to the process of making the enamel piece however not completely sure). This piece was found at an estate - there is a scratch mark on the back top right side - it looks as if someone has scratched the metal possibly to test the metal content.
