1956 Signed Bailey Modern Midcentury Surrealist Enamel Copper Art Plate Painting

HERES A HIGHLY UNUSUAL SIGNED AND DATED 1956 ORIGINAL VINTAGE MODERN SURREALISTIC ENAMEL-ON-COPPER ART PLATE BY AN ARTIST NAMED BAILEY THAT DISPLAYS A BIZARRE LANDSCAPE! Measuring approximately seven and three quarters inches (7 ¾) in diameter by five eighths of an inch in height, the artist named Bailey created a truly bizarre either seascape or landscape. For starters, the yellow enameled ribbon-like or flag-like design located on the left-side foreground can be construed as either a ships mast with sails or perhaps simply a flag pole with flags.

Off in the distance is a red-orange enameled amorphous sculptural shape displaying an oval hole in its center as if to pay homage to Henry Moore and his use of similar sculptural forms with negative space. Emanating from the red-orange enameled amorphous sculptural shape are white enameled linear lines that establish a grid-like pattern across the surface of what is either the ocean or the ground.

There is an established horizon line that runs across at the base of the red-orange enameled amorphous sculptural shape. Above the horizon line is what looks to be an overcast, cloudy, stormy sky rendered in dark brown, dark green, and a darkened white enamel. And the dark green areas have a iridescent luster. The plates underside is counter enameled in opaque yellow with black highlights, especially around the outer rim area. Signed within the enameling BAILEY / 56 on the underside bottom.

Condition: Generally excellent and clean condition with a few small surface scratches and minor wear on the underside bottom where the plate meets the counter.
