HERES AN 11 SIGNED ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1950S OR 1960S ENAMEL-ON-COPPER PLATE BY WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA, ARTIST MILLIE CRUTCHFIELD! Measuring just under eleven inches (10 7/8) in diameter by one inch (1) in height, Millie Crutchfield created a beautiful Fall-toned design of oak leaves and acorns rendered in pinkish-red, yellow, green, and brown.

And for each of the acorns Crutchfield used small pieces of silver foil as their tops. The plates underside is counter enameled in white-speckled black enamel. Signed on the underside bottom in post-firing gold Millie Crutchfield. Condition: Generally excellent and clean condition with two extremely small flea bites on the underside rim (barely visible). In 1963 enamelist Millie Crutchfield was instrumental in forming the nucleus from which a small group of artists founded the Piedmont Craftsmen Inc.

And the Piedmont Craftsmen Fair. In fact, an article about the Piedmont Craftsmen published in the November 1968 issue of Ceramics Monthly magazine cites Crutchfield as the Executive Vice President. And she is cited in several different articles for her role in spearheading this organization. What is not discussed, unfortunately, were her activities as an enamel artist.

While it is quite evident that Crutchfield was an established enamel artist in the Winston-Salem area by at least the late 1950s and worked through the 1960s and probably longer, there is very little available information about her accomplishments in the enamel arts. LASTLY, SHOULD THE WORD "EAMES" BE USED IN THE SEARCH TITLE, IT IS THERE FOR THE PURPOSE OF REFERENCING THE MID-CENTURY TIME PERIOD OF THE 1940S THROUGH THE 1970S. 14 THIS ITEM IS BEING OFFERED BY DESIGN REFERENCES -- ESTABLISHED BY A FORMER ART MUSEUM CURATOR TURNED BOOKSELLER SPECIALIZING in OUT-OF-PRINT and PERIOD MATERIALS on the PROGRESSIVE IDEAS of MODERNISM and POST-MODERNISM in DECORATIVE ARTS and ARCHITECTURE, INDUSTRIAL and STUDIO ARTS of the 19TH & 20TH CENTURIES. 15 PLEASE -- NO REQUESTS FOR PHOTOCOPIES OF THIS ITEM.

I DO NOT MAKE PHOTOCOPIES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. 16 AGAIN, COMMUNICATION IS KEY! 17 LASTLY -- WHEN OBSTACLES AND PROBLEMS LOOM LARGE AND YOU SEEM TO BE AT A STAND STILL, REMEMBER THAT EVEN A FALTERING STEP FORWARD IS BETTER THAN NO STEP AT ALL.
