Mme Aimee Wagnon-Chantre (1818 Geneva - 1899 ibidem) was a pupil of Genevan enamel painter Jacques-Marc Henry, and was herself a well known enamel painter, who specialized in commissioned portraits and copies after old masters. Museum Rath in Geneva houses a wonderful copy painted by Wagnon-Chantre after Largilliere. In 1843 she married M. Gabriel Wagnon, and, from that point on, signed her works with a.Wagnon as in our case!
