Antique 18th Century Miniature Battersea Bilston Enamel Plaque Picture C 1760
A wonderful miniature 18th century enamel plaque dating to the Georgian 1765 period. Of rectangular shape with polychrome painted decoration depicting a typical Rococo scene of two young lovers in an Arcadian landscape - a follower of Nicolas Lancret. We particularly adore the attention to detail, the ladies fan, the cascading waterfall and the English village church spire in the far distance.

All of these points indicate a Fine quality piece of early enamel production. This would make a fine addition to your Battersea or early English enamel collection; it would also be a luxurious accessory for a very, very special doll. This enamel plaque is housed within its original, highly decorative 18th century gilt pinchbeck mount with twist loop suspension... This is NOT the lid of a box, miniature enamel plaques were produced in frames as decorative luxury items. See identical examples in the book English Painted Enamels pages 17 to 23 by Therle and Bernard Hughes.

Size: Width 3.5 inch (9 cm) by height 3.25 inch (8 cm). Depth 0.25 inch (7 mm). Condition: A few small hairlines to the top right corner of the enamel that are so common with enamel pieces from this 1700s period.

Please excuse any reflections from our studio lighting. Please stop a while and browse our other 18th century enamels, we have a fine collection of genuine 18th century English enamels as seen in the last image, each retailed.
